HR cold foam

HYLEX® – HR cold foam

HYLEX® is our HR (high resilience) cold foam. HR cold foam is an evolution of standard PU foam: during production the cell walls are crushed open, creating a particularly open cell structure. The result is a foam with high resilience, excellent point elasticity and above-average breathability.

Compared with comfort foam, HYLEX® adapts far better to the body contour, springs back quickly and stays dimensionally stable over years of use. Typical densities for mattress applications range from RG 40 to RG 60 — higher densities mean more load-bearing capacity and durability.

Properties at a glance

Property Characteristics Typical use
Density RG 35 to RG 60 (typical) Mattresses from RG 35, premium from RG 50
Resilience High (high resilience) Fast spring-back under load
Point elasticity Very high Body contouring, shoulder/hip relief
Cell structure Open (crushed), breathable Good sleeping climate, moisture transport
Dimensional stability Very high, durable 10+ years at premium densities
Compression hardness SH 20 to SH 50 Soft to firm, depending on application

Applications

  • Premium mattresses: as the core or load-bearing layer in multi-layer systems, especially for active sleepers and higher body weights
  • High-quality seating and upholstery: sofas, chairs, therapy furniture with long service lives
  • Roll-packed mattresses: HYLEX® can be roll-packed — ideal for e-commerce and dropshipping
  • Medical couches: treatment and therapy couches, dental chair padding
  • Hotel and contract mattresses: high dimensional stability even under intensive use

Who is HYLEX® particularly suited for?

  • Sleepers who perspire heavily: the open, crushed cell structure wicks moisture away and prevents heat build-up
  • Active sleepers who turn frequently: fast resilience prevents the feeling of being stuck
  • Sleepers above approx. 90 kg: from RG 50, stable support without sagging
  • Back sleepers with tension: point elasticity supports shoulders and hips precisely
  • Hotel operators and contract clients: a service life of 10+ years at premium densities
  • Summer use: the most breathable foam type in the CT portfolio, ideal for warm bedrooms

Frequently asked questions about HYLEX®

What is HR cold foam and why is it better than standard PU foam?+

HR stands for high resilience. The cell walls are crushed open during production, creating a very open cell structure. The result: higher resilience, better point elasticity, more breathability and considerably longer life. Cold foam is therefore used for premium mattresses, heavily used upholstery and medical applications.

Which German manufacturers produce HR cold foam?+

CT Formpolster in Löhne (NRW) produces HR cold foam under the HYLEX® brand in its own foaming plant. Available as block foam or cut-to-size in densities from RG 35 to RG 60, directly from the factory.

What density do you recommend for an HR cold foam mattress?+

From RG 35 for normal use. For higher body weights or intensive use (hotels, care facilities) RG 40 to RG 50. Premium mattresses at RG 50 to 60 last ten years and more.

Can HR cold foam be roll-packed?+

Yes. HYLEX® can be roll-packed, enabling compact, cost-efficient shipping — ideal for e-commerce partners and dropshipping. On request, CT Formpolster handles production, roll-packing and direct dispatch.

What is the difference between HR cold foam and memory foam?+

Cold foam (HYLEX®) springs back quickly, provides stable counter-pressure and suits active sleepers. Memory foam (VISOMEX®) responds to body heat, adapts slowly and relieves pressure points across a large area. Premium mattresses often combine both: HYLEX® as the core, VISOMEX® or GELAX® as the comfort layer.
